What is SQL?

     SQL stands for Structured Query Language and is used to communicate with databases. That is , if we want to store , delete , update the data in database we have to use SQL queries. IBM first developed SQL in 1970s. Today, it has become a Standard Universal Language used by many relational database management systems (RDBMS). Some of the RDBMS systems are: Oracle, Microsoft SQL server, Sybase etc.

SQL Database Table , Table Columns ,Table Rows :

     SQL database is constructed of a number of tables . Tables are uniquely identified by their names. Each SQL table contains a number of columns ( referred to as fields ) and rows ( referred to as records ) . Columns are identified by column name, data type ( text , numbers , binary) . Rows contain the records or data for the columns. Here is a sample table called “employee”.
